In India 5th September is celebrated as Teacher’s Day as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society. 5th September is the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education, and was a well known diplomat, scholar, President of India and above all a Teacher.
When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the President of India in 1962, he was approached by some of his students and friends and requested him to allow them to celebrate 5th September, his “Birthday”. In reply, Dr.Radhakrishnan said, “Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teacher’s Day “. The request showed Dr.Radhakrishnan’s love for the teaching profession. From then onwards, the day has been observed as Teacher’s Day in India.
The Teacher’s Day celebration was held on 5 September, 2017 at Radha Govind Group of Institutions, Meerut. Students decorated the college auditorium with the decorative items like ribbons, hanging, balloons and many more.
The event began at 11:00 am, hosted by Shrishty Chaudhary and Manu Tyagi. The Event commenced with the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony by honorable Chairman Shri Yogesh Tyagi, Dr. Neeraj Kumar Director, RGGI and Respected HOD’s. Saraswati Vadana was performed by B.Tech first year students. A melodious song on “Guru Vandana” was sang by Ankit(MBA) & Ankur Tomar (MCA) which left the gathering mesmerized.
The Chairman, Shri Yogesh Tyagi in his speech said that RGGI is known for imparting value education to the students. He also added that the significance of the function is to show respect to our Gurus who dispel darkness and ignorance around us. Teachers give light to students. They sacrifice their life for the upliftment of the students by imparting not only knowledge but also wisdom. Knowledge can be obtained through various media like books, novels, newspapers and internet. But students can acquire wisdom only through teachers. As wig in the lamp, the teachers sacrifice themselves to brighten the lives of the students. Thus the Chairman appreciated all the teachers for their hard work, dedication and commitment.
Prof. Neeraj Kumar, Director, emphasized the importance of parents and teachers in one’s life. As Compared with Parents, teachers spend lesser time with the children. He advised the students to pay their respect to their teachers. It was his firm conviction that wisdom, happiness and peace, will prevail if teachers and students interact with each other with the spirit of oneness. He affirmed that a teacher not only disseminates knowledge but also her entire personality.
